Nintendo is Going to be Floating on a Cushion of Cash for Years to Come

March 16, 2012

Were you worrying at all about Nintendo? The headlines have been pretty doom-and-gloom for Nintendo recently. Never fear though, rays of light beam down on the smiling faces of Mario, Link, and Kirby. This snippet and image from Nintendo-Gamer proves that Nintendo will be around for a long, long while.

“Buried in reams of financial data is the revelation that Nintendo have 812.8 billion Yen (£6.7/$10.5 billion) in the bank – enough for it to take a 20 billion Yen loss (£163/$257 million) every year until 2052. Then there’s almost 469 billion Yen (£3.8/$6.0 billion) held in premises, equipment and investments. When that runs out – we’re in the year 2075 by this point – they’ve got some of the most valuable intellectual property in gaming to sell off before the company goes out of business.”

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes Announcement Trailer

March 16, 2012

The minifigs can talk! Since 2005 when the original Lego Star Wars game came out, Lego minifigs have communicated in their games with waves and grunts. No longer is this the way it shall be. Now they shall talk and make cheesy puns about their brick-built realm!

“The Fireflower” – Mighty Lego Super Mario Bros. 3 Airship

March 12, 2012

I’m at a loss for words. This has been sitting in my blog que for quite a few days with me just trying to figure out what to say that would do this Lego Super Mario Bros. 3 Airship justice. I honestly cannot comprehend the ridiculous amount of awesomeness.

This more-than-masterpiece was created by Baron Von Brunk who has been working on it since November 2011. It contains over 8,000 bricks and is currently being displayed on a six foot long table with a fleet of mini-ship escorts and a pair of mischievous plumbers on board. You really have to look here for all the pics of this amazing creation. If you don’t feel like looking through an incredible number of pictures of a Lego set, here are some of my favorite shots.

So far, quite a nice selection of news has come out of these events. I wonder what we will see this time?

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition is making it’s way to DSiware and the Nintendo 3DS eShop tomorrow. Considering it’s free, it’s supports up to four players, it has new levels, and it’s Zelda, I’m pretty excited. Read Kotaku’s preview here to get your mouth watering (if it isn’t already!)
