Club Nintendo Platinum Rewards 2012: A Disappointment

July 6, 2012

The first year Club Nintendo existed in North America, the elite platinum status rewards were nothing short of incredible. You had the choice of getting either a Mario Hat or the exclusive game Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!!

The following year, Club Nintendo dished out the magic again with a Mario statue as the elite platinum status reward.

Last year, the platinum reward was a set of 25 Super Mario pins in a fantastic 8-bit box. It wasn’t quite up to the standard of the previous two years, but it still felt substantially excellent.

This year, in Japan, Nintendo gave out a 8-Bit Super Mario Plush to platinum members. On it’s box it says “Thank you so much for your love”.

So why on earth would Nintendo give out either posters or playing cards to platinum members in the US this year? For people who don’t know, in order to reach platinum status on Club Nintendo each year, one has to spend $600 in Nintendo products, register the codes, and fill out surveys for each item. I’ve managed to reach this goal every year since Club Nintendo in the US was born (the past four years) and I feel quite cheated to just receive a deck of cards.

I mean, it is hard to complain about free stuff, but COME ON. Would it have been that hard to make more of that awesome plush to give to the North American Club Nintendo platinum members?

Club Nintendo 2012 Gold and Platinum Elite Status Rewards Revealed

July 6, 2012

Club Nintendo announced today their Platinum and Gold rewards for 2012. The Platinum members exclusively get a set of three posters (the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Kid Icarus: Uprising) or a deck of Mario playing cards.

Gold members (or platinum members who don’t want the cards or posters) get the standard calendar which seems to be the new yearly gold level prize.

Alternatively, if you are a platinum or gold member who doesn’t want any of the physical prizes, you can instead choose to get a downloadable game. You can choose from Super Mario Kart or The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask from the Wii Virtual Console, Metroid II: Return of Samus from the 3DS Virtual Console, or Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! from DSiWare (only redeemable on a 3DS, though).

What do you think? Stay tuned for my… impressions.

December 16, 2011

Club Nintendo recently was given a brand new look along with a bunch of new features, including the ability to get Nintendo downloadable games as rewards! Right now Club Nintendo members can exchange 100 Coins for Super Mario Kart and 150 Coins for Fluidity on the Wii console. Normally these games are sold for $8 and $12 respectively. Club Nintendo members also have the option of exchanging 100 Coins for 3D Classics: Xevious and 150 Coins for Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! for the Nintendo 3DS system. These two games normally sell for $5.99 and $7.99 respectively. Quite exciting and a smart move by Nintendo if you ask me.

Only Five Days Left to Reach Elite Status on Club Nintendo

June 26, 2011

Make sure you input enough coins to reach a Elite Status (either Gold or Platinum). The two previous years Elite Status awards have been epic! 2009’s Platinum reward was either a official Mario hat or “Doc Louis’s Punch Out!” (an exclusive game) and 2010’s was a Mario statue. Both years Gold Status rewards have been exclusive calendars, which are great, but not as amazing as the Platinum rewards. Be sure to hurry though to get any status though, you only have until the 30th of this month to input those  surveys! Go to Club Nintendo now!
